If School Notes Were Honest

School Note

My son got sent home with this sweet note from his preschool this week. We love his school. We loved his school last year too, and it hurt our hearts to change, but it was best for our family and Bex is thriving.

(His preschool last year took care of him in a cast all year- we will love them forever.)

But it could be funny if these notes were entirely honest. It would say:

“Bexon locked himself in the bathroom stall at school today and we couldn’t get him out. He was playing in the toilet water like it was a super fun pool, and he got his clothes soaking wet.

We got him out, but then he tried to dry his face and whole body under the electric hand dryer. Several times, he licked it. We were cracking up because your kid is weird and hilarious.

We gave him a new school shirt, no charge.

Oh, and he’s also super smart and enthusiastic and we’ve all fallen in love with him.”

Everyone does.

I totally want to know what game he was playing in the toilet water. Whatever game that was, I bet it was fun as HELL.

I do get notes like that. Apparently I don’t go to schools where they sugar coat things.

The school director told us about him doing that stuff. I must say that I really liked her attitude, it is funny and they are just little kids exploring the world.

Working with children who are severe on the autism spectrum, a LOT of our notes looked like the “Real” Bexon note… LoL!

“Your dear precious child whom I love ever so dearly peed on me today… Twice. There will be no charge for the two trips I had to make home to change my clothes.”

I can’t tell you how much I miss my job.

    Truest story ever.

Oh, gosh Dani, sincerely- what amazing kids and what an incredible job to have.

So many of our precious kids are on that spectrum these days, the beauty in their souls is are bigger than any dream I could ever dream.

I worked as a behavior therapist for children with autism (preschool/elementary school age) for over 15 years, and it was the most amazing, difficult, wonderful, heartbreaking, uplifting, exhausting, soul-expanding thing I’ve ever done.
I had to quit in April, when we moved from CA to NY, and it was devastating for me to say good-bye.

Your little Bexon note made me laugh (and got me a little misty, because I’m a real sappy, emotional teacher/mom like that)… The silly, funny, unexplainable things that kids do are the best. I always made sure to send those notes home!

  5. You need to get lots of I Lick Dryer stickers. They will be way useful throughout Bexon’s school years and his career in politics.

  7. Dear Bexon,
Locking yourself in the bathroom stall when you need a little break from reality is perfectly acceptable. I do it all the time…

Being clever enough to find fun ways to amuse yourself in there deserves Kudos!

    Go YOU!

Teachers are like superheros because they have other-wordly amounts of patience and fabulous penmanship. How do they do it? I’ve never written a note that clearly and well-spaced in my life!

I know, my handwriting looks like I’m a serial killer. Teachers rule!
